Meet the Pack!

Some of my first memories are of dogs.  I grew up splitting my time between Maine & Massachusetts with a constant of Golden Retrievers and Labs in the family.  I have pictures of myself surrounded by puppies when I was three.  Does it get any better?  I think not.  One of our labs, Emma, used to get out every once in awhile.  I was the only one who was able to coax her back and get her on leash to take her home.  I probably should have realized my connection with dogs at an earlier time.

Instead, I went to school and became a teacher.  I worked teaching high school Math for seven years.  During this time, Lola joined me and I just wasn't happy in what I was doing.  One day I was out hiking with her and realized that those hikes were when I was happiest.  So I traded in my chalk & calculator for a leash & tennis ball and haven't looked back.

I've loved being with dogs my entire life. After graduating from college on the west coast in 2012, I immediately knew that I didn't want a job behind a desk. I realized I could turn my passion for dogs into a rewarding career and I'm so glad I did. I now have over ten happy years of experience working with and caring for dogs. When I'm not working I enjoy playing basketball, frisbee, and skiing.

My family raised a variety of large dogs while living in the woods of Eastern Pennsylvania, only doubling up on a breed once. The love I have for dogs is made rather apparent soon after meeting me. While working at camp I went by the nickname Akita and tossed in as many dog themed lesson plans and activities as I could get away with. The campers were often amazed at my ability to notice a pup as soon as it entered my field of vision (even in a crowd), and that if I randomly pick a path between two points we would run into a dog. They called this my "pupdar". My life goal is to foster, train, and rehabilitate dogs so that more dogs can live in furever homes instead of remaining in shelters. To me, having a dog is like having a heartbeat and being able to work with dogs is akin to being able to breath. It's necessary! That and even on the ruffest of days, it's still a day I got to spend with a pawsome group of dogs.

Ever since I was a little kid, I have always loved dogs. In the first grade, I wanted a puppy as my birthday present and my parents agreed on the condition that I took care of her. I went to the town library and checked out every book on dog care and dog training I could find and read them all cover to cover. At my dog-themed birthday party, I told all my classmates for gifts to get dog toys for my upcoming puppy and, when I did get her, we were best friends. Years later, as an adult, I was able to get a job working with dogs and seeing their faces every morning was the best part of my days. Ten years later, caring for man's best friend is still all I want to do. During the years, I've always had dogs of my own, at some points having two, including Rudy and Grubber who served as ring bearer and flower girl, respectively, during my wedding. I am currently the proud father of a rescue Sato from Puerto Rico named Teddy, as well as two well behaved bunnies named Hops and Barley. Outside of walking dogs, I also play rugby for Worcester Rugby Football Club. I have been an avid rugby player since high school and even named two dogs, Grubber and Scrum, after the sport. I also enjoy running with my wife or taking camping trips in the White Mountains.

Dogs didn’t enter my life until 4th grade when I saw my first herding demonstration with border collies. After that, I became obsessed. My mother bought me a border collie plushie and a herding whistle which I brought with me everywhere. As I grew older, dogs continued to come in and out of my life. Most of my friends had dogs, and my dad eventually got a dog. Visiting the dogs at their houses became almost more exciting than seeing the people.

Fast forward to 2019, I finally got my own dog. Working with him to reduce his reactivity reignited my love for dogs, so I decided to look for a job with dogs. The rest, as they say, is history. I found Beantown Hounds and spend sunrise to sunset with a dog (or 6) at my side.
